Q: Where does Huancayo's power come from?
A: Huancayo hosts a large hydroelectric plant. The large river Mantaro that follows through the valley rapidly descends soon after Huancayo and they've built some tunnels through some mountains to channel the water and house turbines to generate enough electricity for not only Huancayo, but also Huancavalica and Ayacucho (two other largish mountain cities) as well as some of Lima. With this resource, Huancayo should in theory never be short of electricity, but we've already learnt that the powergrid is fairly vulnerable to the weather.
